About

Strong communities start with accessible healthcare

REACH Niagara supports community recovery by providing healthcare to individuals who lack access to basic needs, including those who are homeless, precariously housed, or living below the poverty line. We recognize that homelessness is a complex issue, and at REACH Niagara, we believe it is fundamentally a healthcare issue. Some of the largest barriers to someone obtaining and keeping housing is their overall health and wellbeing. Addressing our marginalized community members’ wellness is a foundational and first step in them obtaining housing.

Annual Reports

REACHing out in Niagara

The Need

There are more than 650 people experiencing homelessness and nearly 70,000 people living in poverty in Niagara. Health concerns increase and access to healthcare decreases when people are unable to have their basic needs met. 47% of our client’s report having no other access to Healthcare.

Homeless people face several barriers to accessing the healthcare they need. This includes lack of access to transportation, the inability to keep appointments, lack of health insurance, lost or stolen Identification, and past experiences of stigmatization.

REACH Niagara is here to provide reduced barrier healthcare, counselling support and system navigation so that everyone in Niagara has access to the care they need and deserve.

Prevention Through Consistency

Did you know that the life expectancy of the homeless population can be as little as half of the housed population? Simple medical issues among the homeless often go untreated and spiral into complex medical interventions due to lack of access to medical care. Our multidisciplinary team focuses on immediate and preventative care. An important part in helping healthier communities while reducing the strain on our first-responders and emergency departments.

Our services include:

  • System Navigation
  • Medical Forms Support
  • Harm Reduction Services
  • Primary Care
  • Wound/Foot Care
  • Mental Health Care

No appointment, identification, or referrals are necessary.

Our goal is to build trusting relationships through a regular schedule. This place of trust is instrumental in our ability to provide consistent care, connect our clients with other services and ultimately deliver our clients to a place of better overall health and wellbeing.
